Searson named to nanobiotechnology task force

Prof. Peter Searson has been named by Govenor Martin O'Malley to a newly created task force  to study the benefits of nanobiotechnology on Maryland, particularly as it relates to job creation and improving the quality of life for our citizens.

Prof. Searson is the Joseph R. and Lynn C. Reynolds Professor of Engineering and directs the Johns Hopkins Institute for Nanobiotechnology (INBT). A noted scholar in nanoscience, biophysics and bioengineering, Peter led the successful launch of this cross-divisional institute in 2006. Today, it is the premiere center for nanobiotechnology research in basic sciences, engineering, medicine and public health.

Peter joins Steve Desiderio, director of the Institute of Basic Biomedical Sciences, at the School of Medicine, as one of two Johns Hopkins researchers appointed to the task force. In making the announcement, Governor O’Malley directed the group “to study the benefits of nanobiotechnology… and make recommendations regarding actions that the State should take to promote the growth of these industries in the state.”
